Oksana I. Anand, MD
Dale R. Bachwich, M.D.
Dale R. Bachwich is a native of Flint, Michigan. He received his degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in 1984. He completed an Internal Medicine Residency at University of Michigan’s University Hospital in 1987 and stayed there to complete a Fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology in 1990. He became certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in 1987 and certified in Gastroenterology and Hepatology by the same board in 1990. Dr. Bachwich completed an additional two years of Gastroenterology fellowship training at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
Dr. Bachwich served on the faculty at Harvard Medical School and then at the University of Pennsylvania prior to joining the Rapid City Medical Center.
Dr. Bachwich practices in all areas of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. He enjoys caring for patients and has a particular interest in patients with inflammatory bowel disease. He also has a strong interest in colorectal cancer prevention and has been a member of the South Dakota Council on Colorectal Cancer.
Dr. Bachwich is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association, the American College of Physicians, the South Dakota State Medical Association and the American Medical Association. Dr. Bachwich and his wife, who is also a physician, have a son and a daughter.
Nathan T. Jaqua, MD
Blake A. Jones, M.D.
Blake A. Jones is a native of St. Paul, MN and grew up in Canada. He attended the University of Western Ontario where he studied chemistry before enrolling at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto. He obtained his M.D. degree in 1990.
After completing his medical internship at the Toronto General Hospital in 1991, Dr. Jones subsequently entered medical residency at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine. After practicing with the U.S. Public Health Service-Indian Health Service for one year, he returned to Mayo for a National Institutes of Health fellowship in gastroenterology, and completed his training in 1998./p>
Dr. Jones is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. He is also a member of the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Gastroenterological Association, the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America./p>
Dr. Jones practices general gastroenterology, the diagnosis and management of digestive diseases./p>
In his spare time Dr. Jones enjoys hiking, camping, mountain biking, and spending time with his wife Tracy and their three children./p>
Michael P. McGuire, M.D.
Michael P. McGuire is a native of Montana where he grew up in a ranching family. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in biology from Carroll College in Helena, Montana and his MD degree from the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington. His internship and residency in Internal Medicine were completed at USAF Medical Center/Keesler in Biloxi, Mississippi. His Fellowship in gastroenterology was completed at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. He received certification in Internal Medicine from the American Board of Internal Medicine in 1987. Certification in Gastroenterology was earned in 1991 and he was recertified in 2001 and 2012 from the same board. He is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology.
Dr. McGuire practiced general Internal Medicine for two years before going on to specialty training. After training in Gastroenterology, he practiced the specialty for two years at Elmendorf AFB in Alaska. Dr. McGuire devoted nine years of active duty to the Air Force and feels enriched by this experience.
In addition to general Gastroenterology care, Dr. McGuire’s experience and practice involves specialized procedures for the evaluation and treatment of disorders of the pancreas and bile ducts (ERCP). He has practiced in Rapid City, South Dakota since 1993.
Dr. McGuire is married and has five children.
Valerie D. Stephens, M.D.
Valerie D. Stephens, is a native of South Dakota. At an early age her family moved to South West Minnesota where she completed her primary education. She received her BA in Geography at Mankato State University, where she graduated summa cum laude. After 8 years as a cartographer in Minneapolis, Minnesota, she returned to school and obtained her premedical course work primarily at the University of Minnesota. She then returned to South Dakota where she earned her medical degree in 1997.
Dr. Stephens completed her internal medicine internship and residency at Gunderson Lutheran Medical Center in LaCrosse, Wissconsin and her GI fellowship at the University of Minnesota.
During her fellowship, she received specialized training in endoscopic ultrasound, (EUS) at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Prior to joining Rapid City Medical Center, Dr. Stephens practiced gastroenterology in a private setting in Everett, Washington. She was the primary EUS provider for the area and provided services in general gastroenterology. Her main area of interest is GI oncology.
Dr. Stephens is certified as a Diplomat in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine. She is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association and the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. Outside of medicine her interests include her pets, hiking, biking, art and music.

The Rapid City Medical Center Gastroenterology Clinic is home to the largest group of board certified gastroenterologists in Western South Dakota. We strive to provide quality services to the Black Hills and surrounding areas. The seven gastroenterologists practicing in the clinic have extensive formal training and practical experience in gastrointestinal disorders, diseases and endoscopic procedures. They are supported by four certified nurse practitioners and one physician assistant.
As a team, they specialize in prevention and treatment of disorders of the digestive system, including the liver and pancreas. They offer comprehensive consultative and treatment services within the Rapid City Medical Center and perform procedures at The Endoscopy Center, a state of the art ambulatory surgery center conveniently attached to Rapid City Medical Center, and Rapid City Regional Hospital.
